Mo Ne is still reeling from the shock at Jae Wan's cold attitude. She takes out her phone and looks at his contact (saved as 'my right hand'). She's about to press the call button when Soo An walks in to tell her it's time to attend the meeting with the board of directors. Mo Ne is uneasy about it but she heads off.
Jae Wan and VP are also walking to the meeting room. VP tells Jae Wan he can't trust Jae Wan fully yet because he thinks there's a chance Jae Wan might run back to Mo Ne's side. Jae Wan is completely void of emotions while VP is talking. I'd say VP looks really happy to have his most hated General Manager by his side. The way he swung his stick in joy makes me cringe. As if he's ready to get a-wacking once more.
Mo Ne hesitates outside the meeting room, overhearing all the complains the directors are making about her. She's still trying to catch her breath and gain her composure when Director Baek comes in time to ask her if she plans on running away. Mo Ne pretends to be fine and enters the room with Director Baek. The directors, Jae Wan and VP are all seated around the long, oval table. Some of them start blaming Mo Ne for the recent mess in Ciel, going as far as saying there's no point in her probational term if she's going to wreck Ciel. Mo Ne apologises for carelessly signing the contract personally but shoots the arrow towards VP, plainly stating she's curious how he came up with the event in the first place. He's discomforted by her sudden accusation and weakly says he'll be responsible for everything and will do as Mo Ne had told him - to be a strong tree watching over her.
Director Baek quickly cuts in, asking VP why hadn't he listened to the chairwoman. VP is shocked Director Baek is taking Mo Ne's side. They exchange some words, and Director Baek rounds on Jae Wan, attacking him as well. He, however, denies any scandal with Mo Ne and smugly says Mo Ne is lacking in business matters so it would be difficult for Director Baek and Mo Ne to come up with a plan to revive Ciel.
In the meantime, the concierge staff and Manager Jang are resting in the staff area. They're mostly gossiping about Mo Ne and Jae Wan's recent excursion out of the hotel, which Manager Jang strongly believes is a honeymoon. Woo Hyun is still troubled by Jae Wan's last words to him about protecting Mo Ne and hushes the staff's gossip.
After the meeting, Director Baek catches up with Mo Ne. Mo Ne thanks her for being on her side. Both bump into VP and Jae Wan walking from the opposite direction. Mo Ne earnestly requests to talk to Jae Wan but Jae Wan tries to avoid it by saying he has a meeting with the VP. Director Baek smartly adds that nothing could be more important than tending to the chairwoman. VP agrees and the two go off. He rounds on Director Baek, starting off with his surprise at the close relationship between her and Mo Ne. Director Baek gains the upper hand in the conversation by revealing she knows VP takes tranquilisers to control his anger. VP is shocked and increasingly pissed at her knowledge.
Mo Ne and Jae Wan are in her office. JW talks to her in the polite form and refers to her as chairwoman. But when MN holds his arm and asks why he's being like this, and isn't being alone so tough, he drops the formalities and speaks in a strained voice. He leaves Mo Ne in tears by his cold speech.
Chae Kyung is hovering outside and apologises for having accidentally heard the conversation as she had been on her way to talk to Mo Ne. She makes a guess at Jae Wan's attitude which he shoots down with ease. Even though she's hit the nail on the head! Jae Wan moves off to the lift and stares at his reflection. Chae Kyung comes after him and Jae Wan doesn't respond to her even when she tells him to let her know what he's up to so she can help him. He just shuts the lift door on her face.
VP enters his house, excitedly letting Da Bae know the flowers are aplenty in the garden, only to see Jae Wan and Da Bae sitting together on the sofa. Jae Wan also had a huge bouquet in his hands (for VP's wife). VP asks stiffly what Jae Wan is doing in his house without contacting first but Jae Wan just says he was craving a home-cooked meal. Da Bae even chips in to say since everyone knows Jae Wan is sponsored by VP, it's okay for Jae Wan to be here. VP laughs and heads off to his room but turns back to see Jae Wan and Da Bae with their heads close together. Jae Wan's just whispering about VP's surprise birthday party, nothing more :P But VP quickly shouts, "Jae Wan!" and turns it into a request to speak to Jae Wan in his room. Jae Wan gets up to go but is held back by Da Bae's hand on his arm. She gives him a cute wink, at which VP's eyes turn rounder.
In VP's room, Jae Wan says he'll be more careful around Da Bae if VP doesn't like him talking to her. But VP brushes it off energetically, telling Jae Wan to make sure Da Bae doesn't behave childishly around him. He changes the subject by showing Jae Wan an artist's impression of the future of Ciel Hotel, specifically, the dream plan Chairman Ah had for Ciel. Jae Wan recalls Mo Ne telling him what her dad planned to built in each location. But VP has different ideas. He wants to turn the whole culture park to a casino, just for money. And Ciel will become "Lee Jung Gu's World". What a scary world that would be D:
During dinner, Jae Wan tells the family about funny incidences in the hotel. VP's wife is really impressed by how Jae Wan is not only just a gentleman, but also he's quite funny. Jae Wan watched VP laugh and thinks back to Chae Kyung's question on his plans. His ultimate plan is to destroy VP, whom he refers to as his 'father'. She asks him if he has a girlfriend, to which he says no (poor Mo Ne!) and VP says not to worry about Jae Wan since women line up to date Jae Wan. Da Bae also adds how her classmates in hotel management are smitten with Jae Wan. I'm wondering if she has a little crush on him, too.
Jae Wan pukes outside the house later, probably too stuffed from all he ate. Either that or he's been forcing himself through the meal. He sends off an email before changing into his homewear. He goes to the living room and draws the curtains open, only to see cute, little notes from Mo Ne stuck on the glass. He reads them, his heart aching and pulls the curtains shut.
Mo Ne is sitting on her swing, talking to Bella about Jae Wan. She tells Bella Jae Wan now loves her more than he does Bella but then realises that it was something in the past. She enters her house and makes herself a cup of coffee. Mo Ne drinking coffee is so weird, as weird as Jae Wan eating cake on his own. They're practically mirroring each other in everything. Mo Ne watches Charlie Chaplin while Jae Wan watches Finding Nemo. Both lie down on the floor in front of the sofa and gaze ahead. In Jae Wan's dream sequence, he slowly strokes Mo Ne's head until she falls asleep. But, alas, they are in their separate homes, thinking of each other and going to bed alone.
Mo Ne and Soo An are walking through the hotel. Soo An is getting plenty of calls from people threatening her about something. She cuts them off and also tells Mo Ne not to answer calls from unknown numbers. Meanwhile, Jae Wan is briefing all the hotel staff on the lastest procedures which include frequent tests, language tests, peer feedback and all that rubbish. Most of them are discomforted by it and Woo Hyun speaks out for them, only to be pushed back down to his place by Jae Wan. Manager Jang also tries to give his two cents' worth but is cut off by Jae Wan telling everybody that they can also choose to voluntarily retire within a week from now. Mo Ne barges in, opposing his words. He tells her, point blank, that she has no authority over him and can't lead him. He leaves, and everyone is stunned by how cold and hard he's become to the point of challenging the chairwoman too.
Manager Jang tells Concierge Go he's really sure it's all down to a lovers' quarrel. He's almost right, I must say. He goes on with his theory and is paralysed when the housekeeping ahjummas appear behind him. His number one paranoia still lies with So Moon Jung, and the three ladies burst out laughing at his panic.
Woo Hyun follows Mo Ne and tries to console her. She starts defending herself by saying she's Ciel's chairwoman. And Woo Hyun completes that classic statement for her. They walk off, only to stop at the sight of Jae Wan hanging around with his three hoobaes. He smiles and chats with them as if nothing has happened and this wounds Mo Ne even more. But when Jae Wan spots Mo Ne in the distance, he leaves.
Woo Hyun goes to Jae Wan's office to confront him about his cold attitude. Woo Hyun said he can't carry out what Jae Wan wants because Mo Ne is going to get hurt by whatever Jae Wan does. They have a little disagreement.
Soo An anxiously finds Mo Ne strolling along the path and tells her it's better for her to leave work. Mo Ne doesn't get why until she hears shouts in the distance calling for her presence. She tells Soo An she shouldn't be irresponsible this time and leaves. Soo An immediately contacts Jae Wan. Mo Ne sees protestors shouting for her to take responsibility for a suicide and when she introduces herself, they try to charge at her and throw eggs at her. Soo An rushes over to protect Mo Ne. Jae Wan also arrives in time to see what's happening. His instinct tells him to run and save Mo Ne but when VP steps out of the hotel to see the ruckus, Jae Wan's paralysed. The international division staff, Woo Hyun and Chae Kyung run to the scene as well and Jae Wan leaves abruptly, telling them to take care of it. Woo Hyun rescues Mo Ne!
In Mo Ne's house, Soo An is just done tidying up. Flashback to her walking into Jae Wan's office, all covered in eggs. She asks him if he's the one who did it. But then doesn't want to know. Jae Wan tells her to inform Mo Ne whatever she has to since it's her job. Mo Ne comes out of the bathroom and asks Soo An who's behind it. She's quick to blame the VP but Soo An says even though VP ordered it, someone else, who Mo Ne also knows, carried out the actions. Mo Ne doesn't want to hear further and orders Soo An to leave.
Jae Wan is brooding in his house, obviously thinking about Mo Ne. The doorbell rings, and a sprig of hope creeps up in his eyes. He answers the door, only to see Chae Kyung there. She tells him she'll help him from running over crazily next door. They start preparing dinner but Jae Wan is not even retaining what Chae Kyung says. He mechanically slices an onion, and continues cutting it even after cutting his finger. Chae Kyung immediately stops him. Dazed, he takes some paper towels and dabs the onions. Dude, you should be wiping your finger, not the onions!! It hurts Chae Kyung to see Jae Wan like this, all emotionless and suffering so much a cut to the finger doesn't even hurt.
Mo Ne is lying in bed, drafting a message to Jae Wan. She doesn't send it though. Woo Hyun comes over and shows her the ribbon her dad wrote on. He tells her the puzzle behind the painting and Mo Ne realises it would've been so typical of her dad to hide something since he often did such stuff when she was younger. She runs over to the bridge to check out the boat but finds only the plastic container inside. Woo Hyun is surprised because he hadn't seen it before. It reaffirms his suspicion that Jae Wan might've taken whatever was there.
Mo Ne runs over to Jae Wan's house and interrupts Chae Kyung's talk with Jae Wan. Chae Kyung offers to leave but Jae Wan holds her back, telling Mo Ne not to interrupt his private time if it's nothing related to the hotel. Mo Ne asks Chae Kyung for a favour to leave them alone. She address Chae Kyung by her work title. Chae Kyung agrees and leaves. Mo Ne asks him whether he has anything to say about the boat. He says he'll only give her the answers she wants.
Mo Ne goes home and calls Jae Wan. He doesn't answer. She calls again. She's waiting at her door, counting the number of seconds before he'll come. He's already outside her house, holding the door handle. But he doesn't go in. He listens to her talk to herself. She says she knows he's there but she's afraid to open the door in case he isn't.
Jae Wan goes to the airport the next day to pick up Roman Lee, someone who holds more than 20% of Ciel's shares and is a potential investor for VP's casino plans. Jae Wan wants to get Roman to be on his side, however. He shows Roman the empty land where the stuff Chairman Ah envisioned will be built. Roman says he doesn't know who's hand to hold - VP's or Jae Wan's. They return to Ciel and Jae Wan conducts a presentation on the proposal for the empty site. Mo Ne barges in, tipped off by Director Baek, and demans them to stop it since this is ruining her dad's dreams for Ciel. Roman is a bit taken aback at Mo Ne's entrance. VP tells the guards to take Mo Ne out but she resists their grips and walks out in anger. Roman also leaves the presentation.
Director Baek is busy playing the piano in her room. It's a calm and sweet tune, a tad sad. Not the angsty one she played before. Roman comes in quietly and claps when she finishes. He addresses her as his mother and she pulls him into a hug. She pats his back, smiles and says, "Glad to see you, my son."
-----
I have never seen Director Baek smile even once, yet she did upon meeting her son. I wonder what kind of person she is. She's stoney-faced towards everyone, but so relieved to have her son by her side. I'm interested in the dynamics the mother-and-son team will bring about. I have a feeling although Roman pretends he's not sure if he should follow Jae Wan's plans or VP's plans, he's going to listen to his mother.
I'm also rooting for Roman to be the pillar Mo Ne needs now, during this difficult time. I sincerely hope he falls for her, or likes her enough to want to help her. Perhaps, this new attention from another person might jolt Jae Wan into moving faster in his plans and grabbing Mo Ne back to his side.
I am also surprised to see Director Baek oppose the VP so openly. I guess it's all because of her son, since he has large shares in Ciel. She's now pretty much invincible with her son by her side. All you need to do now, Director Baek, is to make sure you help Mo Ne. Since Mo Ne wants to fulfill her dad's dreams, and Director Baek wants to protect Ciel and Chairman Ah, they're both on the same path for the moment.
